Sleeper started as a season-long fantasy football platform and grew into one of the most-used fantasy apps in the US, with tens of millions of users running season leagues, dynasty leagues, and redraft leagues on the platform. Around 2023, Sleeper added DFS pick'em (Sleeper Picks) to convert its existing fantasy user base into a real-money product in states where DFS pick'em is legal. The fantasy roots give Sleeper an engagement loop that pure DFS operators like PrizePicks can't match. Users log in daily for their season fantasy teams and are naturally exposed to the pick'em product. For users who already use Sleeper for fantasy, the pick'em addition is a natural extension. For users who don't, PrizePicks or Underdog are probably better starting points for DFS pick'em specifically.
Best for: Existing Sleeper fantasy users, fantasy-first players who want real-money pick'em alongside season leagues, users in states where Sleeper pick'em is legal.
Consider alternatives if: You want the most mature DFS pick'em product (PrizePicks has more projection depth); you want multi-format DFS (Underdog has best-ball); you want traditional sportsbook betting (different product category entirely).
The season-long fantasy product is excellent. Sleeper's fantasy football leagues are widely considered the best-designed in the US, with a clean interface, strong mobile-first experience, and community features (league chat, trade analysis, playoff brackets) that keep users engaged for months at a time. Dynasty leagues and superflex formats in particular have benefited from Sleeper's product design. For millions of users, Sleeper is the default fantasy app.
The user base is a structural advantage. Converting existing fantasy users to pick'em is fundamentally easier than acquiring new users cold, which means Sleeper can scale its real-money DFS product without matching the marketing spend of PrizePicks or Underdog. For users who already live in the Sleeper app for season fantasy, the transition to pick'em is one tap rather than a new account at a new operator.
Product design carries over. The Sleeper Picks interface inherits the cleanliness of the fantasy app: projections are presented clearly, entries are easy to construct, and the app doesn't feel cluttered the way some DFS operators do. For users who value product quality, Sleeper's DFS product is a polished experience.
Community features differentiate Sleeper from pure-DFS operators. League chat, fantasy trade discussions, and community-driven content are core to Sleeper's season product and bleed into the pick'em experience in ways that create engagement loops other operators don't have.
The DFS pick'em product is less mature than PrizePicks or Underdog. Sleeper Picks has fewer sports available, narrower projection menus, and less depth in alternate pick types. For users whose primary use case is pick'em volume, the other operators offer more breadth.
State availability is narrower than PrizePicks and Underdog. Sleeper Picks operates in about 14 states currently, compared to 20+ for PrizePicks and 27+ for Underdog. For users outside those states, the product isn't accessible.
The same DFS pick'em legal uncertainty that affects PrizePicks and Underdog applies to Sleeper. State-level challenges in California, New York, Florida, and elsewhere have affected the broader DFS pick'em market, and Sleeper's newer product has less experience navigating those disputes than the more established operators.
Payouts and hold structure follow industry patterns. Sleeper's pick'em multipliers bake in a house edge meaningful larger than traditional sportsbook hold. For users doing careful EV math, the format's entertainment value carries a real cost.
Live betting isn't offered (DFS pick'em locks in before games). Team-based moneyline, spread, and total markets aren't available. For users who want those use cases, a traditional sportsbook is the correct product.

Season-long fantasy is Sleeper's flagship. NFL season leagues, NBA leagues, MLB leagues, and dynasty variants across sports run continuously throughout the year. Leagues support redraft, auction draft, keeper, and dynasty formats with extensive customization. The draft rooms, in-season waiver management, and playoff systems are well-designed.
Sleeper Picks (the DFS pick'em product) runs alongside the fantasy product in states where legal. Users select 2 to 6 player projections and predict more or less. Multipliers are similar to PrizePicks and Underdog but the projection menu is narrower.
The shared app experience means fantasy users see Sleeper Picks entries surfaced naturally during their fantasy-app sessions. This is the core strategic advantage: fantasy engagement drives pick'em engagement without needing separate marketing spend.
Welcome offers for pick'em typically include deposit matches or entry insurance. Recurring promos include weekly entry boosts, streak bonuses, and occasional contest-specific promos. Volume is moderate relative to PrizePicks and Underdog's aggressive promo cadence.
Payouts typically process to PayPal same-day, Venmo same-day, and ACH within one to three business days. Deposits accept credit/debit card, PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, and ACH. First withdrawal triggers identity verification.
If you already use Sleeper for season-long fantasy (and many millions of users do), adding pick'em entries inside the app you already live in is the lowest-friction entry to real-money DFS. The shared wallet, unified account, and seamless UI make Sleeper the natural choice for this user segment.
If you value community features and social fantasy play alongside real-money activity, Sleeper's league chat and community integration are unmatched in the DFS space. For social-fantasy-inclined users, Sleeper provides a different experience than transaction-focused DFS operators.
Sleeper isn't the right primary pick for users who prioritize DFS pick'em breadth (PrizePicks offers more), best-ball tournaments (Underdog is the clear leader), or traditional sportsbook betting (different product category).
Sleeper Picks is a DFS pick'em product rather than a traditional sportsbook. It doesn't participate in the moneyline-spread-total market comparison Compare n' Bet's odds page is built around. Users who want to compare sportsbook prices across operators will find Sleeper falls outside that use case.
